A film titled Meethi – Maa Ku Ashirwad which showcases the region’s diverse and rich cuisine is all set to be released on August 30 in cinemas across Uttarakhand. Sharing this information on Tuesday, the producer of the film Vaibhav Goyal said that the film seeks to tell the story of Meethi, a village girl, who inherits her mother’s culinary skills and the rich food traditions of Uttarakhand. “The movie explores the deep connection between food and people, underscoring the role of traditional Uttarakhand dishes in shaping the narrative and connecting the audience with the film’s characters,” he said.
Set against the backdrop of Uttarakhand’s picturesque landscapes, the film follows Meethi as she faces challenges that lead her to leave her village and move to a city.
Goyal further said that despite facing deprecation for the traditional Pahari dishes she cooks, Meethi’s culinary talent finally captivates everyone, from roadside customers to Master Chef-style competition judges. “The film takes viewers on an emotional journey as Meethi strives to preserve her heritage, overcome past wounds and build a future that honours her roots,” he said.
Goyal also emphasised that Uttarakhand food, particularly dishes made from millets, is rich in nutrients, offering significant health benefits. “Yet, it remains underrepresented in mainstream culinary discourses. This inspired us to develop a story that explores the themes of culture, heritage and migration within an urban and contemporary setting,” he added.
