Youth threatens suicide at GDMC hospital over mobile phone

A young man who was brought to the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital tried to commit suicide on Friday afternoon. Informing about this, the public relations officer at GDMC, Mahendra Bhandari informed that the individual, accompanied by attendants, visited the hospital for treatment. The individual sought treatment from a doctor at the hospital and claimed during the session that his phone had been stolen. Following this, he proceeded to the fourth floor of the hospital’s OT, perched on a wall and began to threaten to jump. Despite efforts to persuade him otherwise, he did not heed to anyone’s interventions, he said.
He further said that after learning about the situation, the police and Fire Service personnel promptly reached the hospital and successfully intervened to prevent the young man from attempting suicide. The man was eventually apprehended after about two hours. The scene took place between 12 PM and 1 PM. Following an investigation, the police revealed that the youth’s attendants had taken the phone from him at the hospital. Apart from this, it was also revealed that the man was mentally disturbed, Bhandari added.
Notbaly, this incident caused considerable traffic congestion on the main road, posing challenges for commuters.
