DGP meets Union Home secretary, discusses women safety issue & challenges in BNS implementation

The officiating director general of police of Uttarakhand Abhinav Kumar met the Union Home secretary Govind Mohan in New Delhi on Tuesday. During a courtesy visit to Mohan, he discussed significant issues related to the State’s law and order situation, security landscape, women’s safety and police reforms, among others, in detail. A key topic of discussion was the challenges associated with the implementation of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in Uttarakhand. Kumar also highlighted the State’s efforts in this regard and sought guidance on overcoming these challenges effectively. In terms of women’s safety, the conversation focused on measures being taken to enhance security for women in the State. There was a detailed discussion on the steps already undertaken and the kind of support required to strengthen these efforts further. Kumar also presented the outline of special campaigns and initiatives aimed at prioritising women’s safety, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all. The DGP and Mohan also deliberated extensively on the steps being taken to improve the State police force and the cooperation needed from the Central government to achieve these reforms. They discussed the need for modernising the police force through advanced technology and training, thereby empowering the Uttarakhand police to deal effectively with contemporary challenges. The meeting also addressed the State’s preparedness to tackle the growing threat of cyber crime. Kumar also emphasised the importance of equipping the police force with the necessary tools and training to counter cyber threats effectively. Mohan assured him of providing all possible support from the central government in strengthening the law and order situation in Uttarakhand, particularly in strengthening women’s safety. He reaffirmed the Central government’s commitment to assisting the State in all its endeavours to maintain peace and security. Besides this, Kumar also invited the Home secretary to visit Uttarakhand and guide the State’s officials in their efforts to enhance security and governance.
