ICAR-IISWC commemorates Himalayan Day

In latest news from Dehradun, the Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC) celebrated the Himalayan Day by hosting a one-day workshop titled ‘Soil, Water, and Agriculture in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR): Present Status and Future Prospects’. Aside from experts, members of various Central and State government organisations, including ISRO-IIRS, UCOST, FRI, BSI and GSI, participated.  The Central University of Himachal Pradesh also sent its teachers to the workshop.

Inaugurated with a video message of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the experts deliberated on key challenges and solutions for the conservation and sustainable development of the Indian Himalayan region.

Addressing the workshop, the head of the Hydrology and Engineering Division at ICAR-IISWC R K Singh said that while soil is the soul water is the life and agriculture is the lifeline of the region. The principal scientist at ICAR-IISWC P R Ojasvi highlighted the importance of Springshed management for rejuvenating seasonal and dried springs. Among the dignitaries present were the noted environmentalist Anil Joshi and Prem Chand Sharma
