In latest news from Doon, in another women empowerment move meant to generate self-employment avenues, the State government is all set to provide 50 per cent subsidy to women from economically unprivileged families for buying two-wheelers and four-wheelers under the Mahila Sartahi Yojana. Besides, the remaining 50 per cent is to be provided to the beneficiaries as loan. This is expected to enable them to become self-reliant through successfully running their business.
As a pilot project, this will be in the first stage implemented in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts and in the later stage, in the remaining districts of the State. Informing this, the director of the women empowerment and child development department Prashant Arya said that this scheme would be financed through the Nirbhaya Fund and the transport department would provide free driving training and licenses to the beneficiaries.
