Kandwal asks DGP to strengthen security to curb gender crimes

The chairwoman of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has taken note of the rising crimes against women and has asked the officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar to strengthen the security system. She said this during a meeting with the DGP to discuss measures to curb crimes against women in the State on Monday.
During the meeting, various important issues related to the safety of women and the protection of their rights were discussed. Kandwal informed that she had asked the DGP to ensure tge safety of women and to take strict steps to prevent crimes against women. She added that various new efforts are being undertaken by the Central government and the State government for women empowerment and strict laws have been enacted for women’s safety, making it difficult for criminals to escape. She emphasised that women’s safety is a very sensitive issue in the State and the commission and the police will have to coordinate and make joint efforts to raise awareness in society for women’s safety, she said.
Kandwal further said that Kumar assured her about their commitment to women’s safety and stated that women’s safety is their top priority. She was told that strict guidelines have been issued to prevent crimes against women. Additionally, they will pursue a policy of zero tolerance for crimes against women and will take strict action against the criminals. During the discussion, many important aspects including public awareness towards women’s rights, were also addressed.
