The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on contractor Amir Qureshi for failing to maintain cleanliness in Rajiv Gandhi Complex and the New Tehsil premises on Wednesday. This action was taken after the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal recently directed the MCD officials to take strict action against those contractors and agencies who fail to maintain cleanliness as per norms.
Following a complaint about waste accumulation at the Tehsil premises, the DM ordered the immediate removal of the waste and directed stringent action against those responsible. A clean up drive was also conducted by the MCD team. Besides this, the deputy municipal commissioner Gopal Ram Binwal also conducted a surprise inspection of waste collection and vehicle operations on Wednesday.
The inspection covered companies contracted by the MCD, including Econ Waste Management, Watergrace, and Sunlight Waste Management. It was found that the number of vehicles assigned for waste collection was below the required count and several vehicles were malfunctioning. Consequently, notices were issued to the respective companies. Binwal imposed Rs 33,600 on Econ Waste Management, Rs 33,200 on Sunlight Waste Management and Rs 9,500 on Econ Watergrace for non-compliance with contractual obligations. He said that the MCD has directed agencies to work as per the norms to ensure proper sanitation conditions across the city or strict action will be taken against them.
