In latest news from Uttarakhand, chlorine gas leakage from a cylinder kept in Nainital’s Sukhatal Jal Sansthan pump house shook the entire town. The joint magistrate Varuna Agarwal started the investigation. Along with the investigation, other pump houses in Nainital are being checked.
As the people smelt chlorine gas, they informed the Jal Sansthan officers. Thereafter, aside from the administrative and police officers, NDRF and SDRF personnel accompanied by the fire brigade and health department teams rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, as the health of some deteriorated, they were transported to B D Pandey Hospital.
The administration evacuated about 100 people from 20 to 30 houses near the pump house. The team disposed of the gas cylinder by putting it in water of Sukhatal lake.
The people vented out anger against Jal Sansthan, saying that had it not rained, a major incident could have happened. They calmed down after the joint magistrate- entrusted with the probe- questioned the Jal Sansthan employees.
