Restore blocked rural roads on priority basis, says secretary

Disaster Management and Rehabilitation secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that rural roads should be restored on a priority basis. He said this while visiting the State emergency operations centre (SEOC) at the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority on Saturday. He checked the level of various rivers, the status of blocked roads and the impact of rain across the State during his visit to the SEOC.

Suman discussed the impact of the rains, damaged roads, water and power connection along with the condition of the Char Dham Yatra routes with experts of the USDMA and nodal officers. He directed all the nodal officers in the control room to exchange information related to their department concerned on time. He directed the officials of the Public Works Department to ensure that the rural motor roads are reopened at the earliest. The rural motor roads getting blocked considerably affects the supply of essential commodities to villages, so these roads must be reopened on a priority basis, he said.

Suman also directed that the district disaster management officers should study the disasters this monsoon in detail. Stating that various agencies have done commendable relief work, he said that the gaps which remain must be evaluated so that bettern planning can be ensured for the future.

Meanwhile, officials informed that live monitoring of Kedarnath and 15 other locations in the State is being done at the SEOC at USDMA. The USDMA system expert Hemant Bisht informed that the back side of Kedarnath temple, Bhairav Pul, Rudra Point, Lincholi, Bhimbali, Junglechatti, Shuttle Bridge, Munkatia, Gaurikund, Sonprayag and other areas are being monitored live. The authorities are monitoring these locations live from the feed from CCTV cameras installed in these locations, he said.
