The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has claimed that the BJP leaders are targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi under a conspiracy hatched by the central leadership of BJP.

He said that the recent statements made by former MLA of BJP Tarvinder Singh Marwah, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaekwad and union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu shows that the top leadership of BJP is frightened by the popularity of Rahul Gandhi.

He said that such denigrated comments in which an open threat to kill the Congress leader is given have no place in Indian democracy and law.

Mahara said that the Congress party strongly condemns the statements of Bittu, Gaekwad and Marwah and demands that action under Representation of People Act should be initiated against them.  He also questioned the silence of BJP leadership on statements in which the leader of opposition (LoP) is labeled as a terrorist and threats of murder and cutting the tongue are being given shows that all this happening on their behest.

Mahara warned that the Congress workers will not tolerate such statements and will hit the roads in protest.

He said that Rahul Gandhi is continuously raising the issues of  public interests in the parliament and outside it due to which the BJP leaders have come in panic mode.

Mahara said that the union minister Bittu has no right to continue in his office and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should seek an apology for the act of his cabinet colleague.

He said that the PCC will hold statewide demonstrations at district headquarters on September 18 in protest against such remarks of BJP leaders.
