Crime against women: Women Congress holds protest march to the CM’s residence

 The workers of the women Congress organised a march to the residence of the chief minister on Saturday. The march was organised in protest against increasing cases of crime against women in the State.  

All the senior leaders of Uttarakhand Congress including Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, leader of opposition (LoP) in State assembly Yashpal Arya, former chief minister Harish Rawat, former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal, former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat and others attended the protest along with large number of party workers. Many senior leaders and workers were arrested by the police when they tried to force their way when stopped.

The president of women Congress Jyoti Rautela said that it is unfortunate that the parents of Ankita Bhandari have not got justice even two years after her brutal murder. She said that the State government is not heeding to the demand of the people and Congress party regarding the CBI probe of the murder. Rautela said that there are many leaders in the BJP who are involved in cases of rape and crime against women.  

 Speaking on the occasion, the PCC president Karan Mahara said that the law and order situation has got completely derailed in the State and the cases of crime against women are increasing. He said that the manner in which a bulldozer was used to demolish the resort and evidence in the Ankita Bhandari case shows that the BJP government is protecting the criminals in the State. Exhorting the workers of women Congress to come forward and act as the shield of women and girls, the PCC president said that everyone should remain alert from the BJP leaders.

 The LoP in State Assembly Yashpal Arya said that brutal murder of Ankita Bhandari is a matter of concern for women safety. He said that the Congress party will continue to fight on the streets and in the Assembly for justice for Ankita Bhandari.

 Former CM Harish Rawat said that a bulldozer was used to destroy evidence in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. He expressed gratitude to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi for raising the demand of justice for Ankita Bhandari during his Bharat Joddo Yatra.

 Former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal said that the police are under pressure from the government for not disclosing the name of the VIP involved in the crime. He added that women are not safe in BJP rule.

The deputy leader of Congress party in the State Assembly Bhuwan Kapdi said that the government has failed to control crime against women and give employment.
