Delhi duo swept away in Ganga near Shivpuri

Two young men from Delhi were swept away by the strong currents of the Ganga river while bathing near Shivpuri in Tehri district in the wee hours on Sunday. The officials said that the police received information that five men reached Shivpuri at about 2 AM on Sunday. Out of these, two men Akash and Sandeep, each 23-years-old, reportedly went down the river near a hotel for a late night dip. However, they were caught in the river’s strong currents and swept away, as stated by their friends, Sachin, Rajeev Chaudhary and Mahesh, the officials said. After receiving information about the incident, the search and rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) , equipped with necessary gear, reached to the incident site. The SDRF’s deep diving team, along with the Water police and local authorities, launched a search operation to find the missing youths. The teams looked for the missing men for hours at all the possible spots but could not find them, as per the officials. They said that the team will resume the search operation on Monday. Besides this, the officials stated that the police are investigating the case from all angles and will take further action after the SDRF gund the bodies of missing men. The SDRF has also urged the public to avoid approaching water bodies during the rainy season, especially in isolated areas and during odd hours, when help may not be readily available in case of an emergency.
