The Dehradun-based orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gaurav Sanjay presented his research work- co-authored with Guinness World Record holder Dr B K S Sanjay- in the 44th SICOT Orthopedic World Congress in Belgrade, Serbia. Informing this, a senior doctor at Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine and Maternity Centre in Dehradun for which Dr Gaurav Sanjay works said that over 2000 orthopaedic surgeons from 95 countries had participated.
The research work is focused on the spurt in road traffic accidents (RTA) in economically developing India. Nearly five lakh accidents occur in India every year with the casualty standing at staggering 1.5 lakh. This aside, the same number of people become temporarily or permanently disabled in these accidents. “The mutilated leg fractures are common after RTA, especially in two wheeler drivers or riders which are challenging problem even for the most experienced orthopaedic surgeons. There is a need of multiple surgeries by the multiple specialists to save these limbs which can often end up with amputation if there are not thoroughly managed,” Dr Gaurav Sanjay said, adding that he had presented a clinical research paper of complex leg injuries in 11 patients following RTA.
It is further learnt that Dr Gaurav Sanjay and Dr B K S Sanjay presented two more research papers related to TB and CP in this conference.
