The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has urged the public to report any suspected illegal firecracker warehouses in their areas as such activities increase ahead of Deepawali. He said that the complaint can be lodged at the disaster control room, the relevant sub-district magistrate’s office or local police station. He assured that swift action will be taken upon receiving such reports and has directed the concerned officials to prioritise such complaints. Bansal also instructed sub district magistrates, regional police officers and chief fire officials to verify the compliance and safety standards of firecracker warehouses in the district ahead of Deepawali. He said that there are currently 13 licensed firecracker warehouses in the district and officials concerned must ensure they adhere to the rules. The DM said that these steps are meant to strengthen safety measures in light of the potential hazards associated with unauthorised firecracker storage and ensure the well-being of the community. The administration is committed to maintaining law and order, particularly during festive seasons when firecracker use is prevalent and all possible measures will be taken to ensure it, he added.
