The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) imposed Rs five lakh challan on Rajpur Road situated two establishments, bars and restaurant, for unauthorised alcohol consumption in the basement and other sanitation related violations. The chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna said that the district administration and MCD conducted a joint inspection of two establishments, Opal Bar & Restaurant and Liquor Hub Wine & Beer on Thursday.
The inspection revealed that unauthorised alcohol consumption was reportedly taking place in the basement of Opal Bar & Restaurant during the evening hours, with people recklessly disposing of waste in the parking area located there, Khanna claimed. It was also observed that single-use plastic was being used extensively on the canteen premises without any checks. Taking immediate action, the authorities imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on the Opal Lounge for violations, he said. He said that a further penalty of Rs two lakh was imposed after it was discovered that the complex was not managing its waste disposal in accordance with the regulations. Sewage was found leaking and waste was scattered across the premises, Khanna said.
Besides this, the MCD imposed Rs two lakh penalty on Liquor Hub Wine & Beer establishment on charges of improper waste management around the premises and extensive use of single use plastic against the rules, he said. “The corporation will continue more such inspections in future, especially during festival season, to ensure all establishments comply with rules,” Khanna added.
