Sunday, 06 OCTOBER 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In order to maintain cleanliness and provide suitable amenities for patients, the administration of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has stepped up efforts to ensure sanitation on the hospital premises. Recent reports have highlighted substandard hygiene in the postnatal care ward at the district hospital. Apart from this, concerns have been raised about the presence of rats and cockroaches, inadequate fan regulation and other deficiencies posing a worrisome situation for patients, particularly women post-delivery. In response to these findings, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has issued directives for the hospital to maintain hygiene standards in all wards. It will be recalled that the DM recently conducted a surprise inspection at the district hospital and instructed them to improve facilities for patient care. In light of recent media reports highlighting concerns regarding the hospital’s cleanliness, the district hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr VS Chauhan stated that the hospital administration has consistently prioritised maintaining cleanliness on the premises, particularly in the PNC ward. He added that despite previous issues with cockroaches and rats, the hospital has been proactively scheduling pest control services three to four times a week in regular mode. However, in response to the recent reports and directives from the DM, the hospital administration has ramped up efforts to enhance sanitation, safety and security measures within the hospital. He informed that the regulator in the PNC ward has been repaired and new ones have been installed on the hospital premises. Further, the hospital administration is planning to issue a tender to a company for carrying out white wash at the hospital. In addition, the concerned company has been instructed to regularly provide pest control services, he said.

He also added that the concern company has been directed to proper sanitation within the ward and hospital premises. The hospital administration has additionally cautioned the sanitation company that if they do not maintain proper sanitation, the hospital administration will levy a 10 per cent penalty on their service fees at the time of payment, he added.
