The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Uttarakhand Cooperative Federation (UCF) are slated to sign a memorandum of understanding for the supply of live sheep, goats, poultry and trout fish. This collaboration involves more than 4,000 local farmers and livestock breeders from villages in Champawat, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh districts.

Chief secretary Radha Raturi has instructed the officials to expedite the formalities and finalise the MoU. She emphasised that this agreement will promote economic activities in the border areas, support local breed rearing and livestock, create employment opportunities for the villagers and promote the “Vocal for Local” concept. This initiative is expected to bring livestock schemes to the grassroots level in the State, she added.

Additionally, ITBP has proposed to provide the services of its veterinarians in the border areas of the State, which Raturi agreed to. She has also directed the arrangement of medical vans for animals under the CSR fund. Further, a meeting will be held with the Tourism department regarding the skill development programme in the tourism sector proposed by ITBP.

Raturi highlighted that the MoU between ITBP and UCF will pave the way for collaboration with other military organisations like SSB and the army, thereby strengthening the supply chain in the border areas.
