Police arrested two men for reportedly spitting into a tea utensil while preparing tea near Library Chowk in Mussoorie. The accused, identified as Naushad and Hasan Ali, attempted to not only endanger public health but also provoke religious sentiments through their actions, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said.
The incident came to light when Himanshu Bishnoi, a resident of Nehrugram in Raipur block, Dehradun, filed a complaint at the Mussoorie police station. The SSP said that Bishnoi had recorded a video near the Library Chowk in Mussoorie last week, where he noticed two men running a roadside stall selling tea, Maggi and other items. In the video, one of the men can be seen repeatedly spitting into the tea utensils before preparing the beverages. Singh said that based on Bishnoi’s complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections.
The SSP formed a special team to locate and apprehend the culprits. The police investigation revealed that the two men, Naushad and Hasan Ali, are originally from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, and had fled Mussoorie following the incident. He said, “Utilising surveillance techniques and informant networks, the police traced the accused to Asharodi and arrested them there on Wednesday. The police are now interrogating them to gather further details about the incident and determine any potential motives. Both accused were currently residing in Gaddi Khana, near Library Chowk in Mussoorie.”
The SSP said that such actions which harm public health and disturb social harmony will not be tolerated. He also said that the police are also investigating the matter in which a man was accused of spitting on food in an eatery located near Inamullah building in Dehradun.
