The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), and the Uttarakhand Scheduled Caste Commission (USCC), intend to jointly implement various schemes for the welfare of scheduled caste children. The chairperson of the SCPCR Geeta Khanna shared this information.
Khanna said that a meeting was recently held with USCC chairman Mukesh Kumar to discuss pertinent issues affecting children of the scheduled caste category. The agenda included topics such as education, immunisation, healthcare and other aspects related to the welfare of these children. Emphasis was placed on the pivotal role of education in the holistic development of children, particularly the importance of enhancing educational opportunities for scheduled caste children. Discussions also touched on the efficacy of vaccination programmes and the enhancement of healthcare services to ensure that all children from this demographic have access to essential healthcare facilities, she added.
Khanna further stated that in addition to this, discussions on career prospects were held to ensure that children have the opportunity to prepare for future employment. Both commissions agreed on the necessity of jointly implementing various welfare programs for children. She underscored that this meeting marks a positive step towards safeguarding the rights and welfare of Scheduled Caste children, with the hope of effecting positive change in society.
