Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party fears impending defeat in the Kedarnath Assembly bypolls and is hence attempting to ensure that the votes are cast on religious lines. Rejecting his statement, the BJP has stated that Rawat and the Congress are experiencing despair as they are bound to lose the Kedarnath bypoll.
Rawat took to social media on Saturday stating that the BJP fears its impending defeat in the Kedarnath bypoll and is trying to polarise the voters. He said that the BJP has been raising old rumours to project him as an appeaser of a particular community. The former CM opined that the BJP fears him and is targeting him to boost its chances in Kedarnath. Reacting to his statements, BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt said that connecting the Hindu-Muslim angle to the Kedarnath bypoll is a result of his despair due to the party’s imminent defeat in the election. His apprehension is natural because while voting in favour of development, the voters of Kedarnath constituency will not forget the deeds of those opposed to Sanatan, Bhatt said. Talking to the media while on a two-day tour of Kedarnath constituency, the BJP State president expressed disappointment at Rawat’s social media post, stating that the Congress veteran remembers the Hindu-Muslim angle even on the sacred land of Kedar valley. In reality, the voters will put their stamp of approval on the unprecedented development works of the double-engine government. The people are sure to vote for the BJP considering the works done for regional development by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, he said. “The Congress committed the sin of trying to dent the image of Kedarnath Dham for their political gains. Harish Rawat is an intelligent politician and he knows that the people in Kedarnath are also aware of the Congress’ anti-Sanatan ideals and deeds across the nation. The people will certainly retain the anti-Sanatan image of the Congress in their minds while casting their vote. Rawat is trying to make an unsuccessful attempt with his statements to shift the blame on the BJP,” Bhatt added.
