The police arrested a village development officer Vinod Giri Goswami from Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district on Sunday for allegedly attempting to murder his wife by strangulation at Saket Colony in Dehradun, following a prolonged family dispute. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the case came to light after Rajendra Nath, the victim’s brother, lodged a complaint at Nehru Colony police station Station. Nath reported that his sister and his brother-in-law Goswami have been living separately for the past few months due to a domestic dispute. He claimed that Goswami arrived at his wife’s residence in Saket Colony with the intent to kill her on Saturday. During the assault, he tried to strangle his wife, believing he had killed her, before fleeing the scene. The victim’s seven-year-old son reportedly witnessed the incident and screamed, alerting neighbours who rushed to the spot. The neighbours took the injured woman to Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital for treatment. Singh said that based on the complaint, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Considering the gravity of the incident, a special team was also formed to apprehend the accused. The police received a tip-off about Goswami’s plan to return to Saket Colony to retrieve his vehicle. Acting swiftly, the special team arrested him from the location on Sunday. The investigation is ongoing and further proceedings will be done accordingly, the police said.
