The State Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat directed the officials concerned to conduct a gap analysis of the government-run medical colleges and submit their report within a week. This directive was issued during a review meeting he chaired on Wednesday.
Rawat emphasised the need for analysing gaps in medical equipment and facilities, including medical faculty, paramedical staff and technical personnel, to ensure qualitative improvement in the functioning of the government-run medical colleges.
He further said that concrete actions would be taken based on the findings of the gap analysis report once it is received. “This analysis will highlight deficiencies and excesses in each medical college, focusing particularly on infrastructure, upgrades, digitalisation and recruitments. The goal is to address human resource shortages and accelerate infrastructure improvement. Additionally, all facilities will be digitised to enhance access for both students and patients,” Rawat said.
Rawat reiterated the State government’s commitment to providing quality education in medical colleges, ensuring availability of specialist doctors in associated hospitals and equipping these facilities with modern medical facilities.
During the meeting, officials were also tasked with developing short- and long- term action plans to improve services at medical colleges.
Further, under the New Education Policy-2020, a target has been set to maximise resources available to medical students through collaboration with private medical colleges, including shared teaching, library access, and e-libraries, he said, adding that annual inter-college sports and cultural competitions would be organised across all medical colleges across the State.
