At least 36 perished in ghastly Almora mishap

In a major accident, perhaps the biggest one this year, over 36 people have been killed with several missing and injured after a 32 seater- bus carrying at least 55 passengers crashed into a deep gorge near Marchula in Almora district on Monday morning. The district disaster management officials said that with several people injured and being treated at hospitals, the death toll was likely to rise. Some passengers of the ill-fated bus were still trapped in the wreckage, they said. The number of the bus is UK 12 PA0061. Three of the seriously injured were airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh while some were transported by helicopteeer to Susheela Tiwari Hospital in Nainital.

Meanwhile, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami rushed to Pantnagar from Delhi where he had gone to attend an important meeting on receiving the information of the ghastly accident. In a stern action, the state government on CM’s order suspended RTO aside from announcing ex gratia of Rs four lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased and Rs one lakh to each of the injured.
