The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that lives of many passengers could have been saved if the air ambulance service of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh was operational. She said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the air ambulance service with much fanfare on October 29 but when the services of air ambulance was needed on November 4 to save the lives of accident victims it was found not operational due to technical issues. Dasauni said that if operational the air ambulance would have landed at a place near the accident site and airlifted the victims to AIIMS- Rishikesh.
“In the case of the Marchula bus accident the authorities airlifted the injured patients from Ramnagar which is more than 45 kms away from the accident site. The accident occurred at 7.30 am and the first helicopter carrying three injured passengers landed at AIIMS- Rishikesh at 12.50 pm while the second helicopter reached AIIMS- Rishikesh at 4.20 pm which shows that precious time was lost in the entire operation,’’ she said.
