Police apprehend two interstate smugglers with smack worth Rs 85 lakh

The Udham Singh Nagar police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Special Task Force (STF) arrested two interstate smack traffickers in possession of 275 grammes of smack, valued at approximately Rs 85 lakh on the international market. The accused were identified as Virpal and Sher Singh, both residents of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. They were arrested during a late-night operation on Tuesday following a tip-off received by informers, the Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manikant Mishra said. He stated that both accused were apprehended about 200 metres ahead of the Crown Hotel on Bareilly Road in Pulbhatta area, the SSP said. Upon searching the suspects, police discovered 112 grams of smack in Virpal’s possession and 163 grams with Singh, he said.
Mishra said that the accused revealed during the investigation that they procured the smack from Chandrasen, a Bareilly resident and sold it across Uttarakhand for considerable profit. Based on their confession, a case has been registered against them as well as Chandrasen, who has been implicated as the mastermind in the smuggling operation. The police will present both accused before the court for remand and will continue the search for Chandrasen, Mishra said.
