Several factors including a convenient access to books and a conducive atmosphere have contributed to the rise in membership at the Doon Library and Research Centre (DLRC) over the years. There has been a noticeable increase in reader membership in recent years.
Informing about this, the DLRC librarian JB Goyal stated that over time, there has been a rise in the number of readers becoming members of the library. Prior to the relocation in 2021-2022, the library had 4,668 registered members. However, following the relocation in 2022-2023, this number increased to 5,121. Currently, there are 6,335 readers who have signed up for membership. Goyal also stated that it is anticipated the membership will continue to grow over time. He attributed the increase in membership to the availability of books and the library’s convenient location. Despite the expected growth in membership, Goyal noted that the issue of limited space may become a concern in the future.
Considering this, he added that once the number of library patrons grows, they will request more space from the relevant authorities. Regarding the services provided to readers at the library, Goyal said that efforts have been made to improve the library’s offerings for readers. Additionally, new books are regularly acquired based on readers’ requests recorded in the demand log at the library. Goyal further informed that readers are required to pay Rs 300 for an annual membership and Rs 2,000 for a lifetime membership that is valid for 20 years. Additionally, a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,000 is collected.
