To promote the exchange of knowledge in the fields of science and technology, the fifth Dehradun International Science and Technology Festival (DISTF) 2024 will be held from November 20 to 23 at Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU), vice chancellor of the university, Onkar Singh said while addressing the media on Monday. This four-day event is being organised jointly by the Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) and the Uttarakhand Science and Education Centre (USERC).
Singh informed that the DISTF festival began in 2020 under the guidance of UCOST and has continued annually since then. This year, the festival will have unique elements including workshops, competitions and a food festival, among other activities. Over 25 events are slated to be held during the four-day festival, with 10 events specifically designed for school students. These events include a science quiz, magic of math and match quiz, science poster competition, robotics workshop and others.
Singh added that there will also be conclaves on green energy, biotechnology and medical technology. Conferences on science, cybersecurity and intellectual property rights will also take place. A major exhibition showcasing science and technology will feature government, non-government institutions, startups and companies involved in innovation and technology. Publishers specialised in science, engineering and technology will also be part of the festival, he said.
Further, the joint director of UCOST, DP Uniyal highlighted that this year, more than 300 educational institutions will be directly involved in the event, with an expected participation of over 50,000 students and science enthusiasts.
“DISTF serves as a platform for school students, educational institutions, research institutions and government departments to showcase their activities and achievements,” said USERC director Anita Rawat. She emphasised that USERC has always supported the promotion of innovation in science and technology among young adults. As part of this initiative, they have established 82 scientific labs across the state, providing advanced technology information in 3D.
