Police complete preparations for Kedarnath bypoll today

Ahead of the Kedarnath Vidhan Sabha bypoll scheduled for Wednesday, the Rudraprayag police have taken stringent measures to ensure a peaceful voting process. Since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the district, authorities have seized 671 litres of alcohol worth over Rs 8.59 lakh in the district, the Rudraprayag superintendent of police Akshay Konde said. He informed that to maintain law and order during the bypoll, the police have initiated preventive actions against 259 individuals under sections 107 and 116 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Besides this, all 311 licensed weapons in the district have been deposited as per legal requirements. Konde further informed that a total of 1,200 security personnel, including those from the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF), district police, Home Guards and Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) have been deployed to ensure security. The deployment also includes two companies of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and one company of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB). He said that the district has 171 polling booths and the police have taken measures to ensure the voting process proceeds without disruption. “We are fully prepared for the bypoll,” Konde added.
