In latest news from Uttarakhand, a doctors’ meeting was held at the Government B D Pandey District Hospital here to mark the World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day.  The objective of the meeting was to raise collective awareness about COPD, the organisers said. This year’s theme is the function of lungs. Addressing the meeting, the senior chest physician working for the State-run facility Dr Abhishek Gupta said that the COPD Day is observed every year on a particular day to make the people aware of how smoking and air pollution are adversely impacting lung functioning.    This disease is the fourth most common disease due to which most deaths occur in the world, he said, adding that 30 to 35 out of about 90 patients come to him for treatment daily with COPD trouble. The common symptoms were persistent cough and whistling or crackling sound while breathing, chest tightness and shortness of breath.
