Doing away with the 180- year-old vestige of colonial baggage, the Mussoorie Municipality renamed the Company Garden as Atal Udyan. The Cabinet ministers Premchand Aggarwal and Ganesh Joshi announced the new name. A statue of the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee after whom the garden was renamed will be installed. The civic body sources further said that the Municipal Post Graduate (MPG) College and Town Hall in the hill station would be renamed soon. The erstwhile Company Garden was also known as Botanical Garden. The renowned geologist H Fackner had laid the garden in 1942.
