19th Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Congress 2024 commences in Doon

The Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) commenced the 19th Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Congress 2024 at the Dr Nityanand Auditorium in Doon University on Thursday. This three-day event focuses on addressing climate and environmental challenges in the Himalayan region and this year’s theme is water and natural resource management.
The theme highlights the importance of sustainable practices for the conservation of natural resources. Marking the first anniversary of the Silkyara tunnel mishap and rescue of workers, the event emphasised promoting climate resilience and water conservation. The inaugural session was attended by UCOST director Durgesh Pant while the keynote address was delivered by the agricultural scientist and the founding vice-chancellor of Doon University Gajendra Singh.
The opening day brought together a diverse group of climate experts, scientists, researchers and policymakers. Over 50 science and space exhibits by institutions like ISRO and NDRF attracted significant attention, showcasing advancements in climate and space research. Singh also talked about the urgent need for water conservation in sustainable agriculture and applauded local and global efforts toward environmental sustainability. A book based on the Silkyara Framework was also launched during the evening session. The event will end on November 30.
