Arya meets Union Sports Minister to discuss National Games preparations

Sports minister Rekha Arya met Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in Delhi late on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming National Games and related preparations. During the meeting, Arya expressed her gratitude to the Union minister for entrusting Uttarakhand with the responsibility of hosting the 38th National Games and thanked him for his continued guidance in ensuring the event’s success. One of the key highlights of the meeting was Arya’s proposal to include seven traditional and emerging sports in the national games schedule. She urged the Union Minister to consider adding Yogasana, Mallakhamb, rafting, powerlifting, speed climbing, Karate and Lagori to the roster of events.
Arya underscored the cultural and sporting significance of these games in Uttarakhand, noting that their inclusion will enhance the diversity of the National Games while also promoting these sports at a national level. She further detailed the state’s preparations for these sports and their growing popularity among local athletes and enthusiasts. Responding to Arya’s request, Mandaviya acknowledged the sentiments of the people of Uttarakhand and the importance of these sports in the State’s heritage. He assured her that the proposal to expand the list of events will be seriously considered. Arya also made the union minister aware about various aspects of organising the national games and the State’s readiness and enthusiasm for hosting this event. Arya said that the State is fully prepared to deliver a memorable and well-organised sporting spectacle.
The 38th National Games are scheduled to take place in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025. The State is keen to showcase its organisational capabilities and promote its unique cultural and sporting heritage through these games, Arya said.
