Light snowfall reported in various parts, winter chill finally arrives in U’khand

Light snowfall was reported in some higher mountainous regions of the State including Gangotri, Yamunotri and Harshil along with some Himalayan peaks on Sunday. Though no significant rainfall was reported in Dehradun till early night, the skies turned cloudy in the evening with the provisional State capital experiencing its lowest temperature in this season so far at 5.8 degrees Celsius. Various places across the State also witnessed a marked drop in temperatures on Sunday.
The season’s first snowfall was reported in the Harshil valley while chilly winds blew in Yamunotri and the Yamuna valley. The minimum temperature in the Yamunotri area was reported to be minus five degrees Celsius. Light snowfall started in this region late in the evening.
Meanwhile, the State Meteorological Centre has forecast that very Light to light rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Almora, Champawat, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts and dry weather will prevail over Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts on Monday.
Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky with the possibility of very light to light rain likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 22 degrees Celsius and six degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Sunday were 22.6 degrees Celsius and 5.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 22.6 degrees Celsius and 5.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 8.4 degrees Celsius and two degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 13.2 degrees Celsius and 2.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. The maximum temperature in Dehradun was normal though the minimum dropped three degrees Celsius below normal. The maximum and minimum each dropped a degree below normal in Pantnagar while in Mukteshwar the maximum was six degrees below normal and the minimum was two degrees below normal. The maximum dropped four degrees below normal while the minimum dropped three degrees below normal in New Tehri.
