The Health department has stepped up efforts to identify and treat tuberculosis patients in the State under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP). A mobile testing van will be operated soon in the five plain districts. This testing van will conduct door to door testing of sputum of the patients. Those found positive for TB will be connected with the treatment.

The Medical Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat informed that testing and treatment of TB is underway on a war footing in Uttarakhand under the NTEP. This is the reason why Uttarakhand is among the top States when it comes to working for elimination of TB. He said that mobile TB testing vans will soon be introduced under the public private partnership mode. The five plain districts of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Nainital and Dehradun will be covered under this scheme. The mobile testing van will visit various areas of these districts and conduct tests to ascertain tuberculosis among the locals. The minister further informed that the mobile van will have a CBNAAT machine along with the facility needed to test the sputum. A route plan will be charted out to maximise the number of patients covered in these districts and the chief medical officers concerned will also monitor the scheme, he added.
