The Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that adequate measures are in place to check the overrating of liquor in the State, adding that bootlegging is harder now. The State has been rid of the nexus of the liquor mafia which was very active when the Congress was in office in Uttarakhand, the BJP averred.
The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that raids are underway at the district level to check overrating of liquor. Necessary legal action is being taken in cases where overrating is ascertained. Apart from this, action is also being taken on the basis of complaints received from the public. “Liquor vends are being allocated according to a set tender process and quality liquor is being served to the consumers. Overrating is not easy now following raids carried in all the districts of the State,” he claimed.
Chauhan said that during the tenure of the Congress government in Uttarakhand, the liquor mafia used to influence the policy. “The liquor mafia used to supply inferior liquor with the support of the government at that time. The situation was so bad that there were open differences between the secretary and the then chief minister regarding an inferior liquor brand,” Chauhan said.
The BJP State media in-charge further claimed that since Uttarakhand is emerging as a tourist State with better possibilities in the future, bootlegging is not longer easy here.Liquor is a major source of revenue for the State and the main reasons for this are a transparent policy and quality liquor being sold to the drinkers, he said.
