A delegation of Uttarakhand Congress led by Vice President ( organisation) Mathura Dutt Joshi met the director general of police (DGP) Deepam Seth on Wednesday and demanded that senior officer should investigate the recent incident at Police Lines, Dehradun. The delegation handed over a memorandum to the DGP on behalf of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara.
Narrating the incident in which a face off occurred between the Youth Congress workers and the journalists at the Police Lines, Joshi said after the mass detention in the secretariat march the youth Congress workers and some senior leaders were taken to the police lines and were made to sit on the stairs. Joshi said that the Congress workers and leaders were not told about the event being organised by the media personnel in the Police lines ground.
He said that perhaps the journalists also had no knowledge of the detention of Congress workers and they probably thought that the Congress workers had come there to protest against them. Joshi said that the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding and the Police officers and personnel deployed there were responsible for this.
The Congress delegation also expressed its concern on increasing cases of crime against women, elderly, theft, drug abuse and accidents in the State. The delegation included Naveen Joshi, Amarjeet Singh, Sheeshpal Singh Bisht and Jaswinder Singh Gogi.
