Tourist footfall surge in Phato Tourism Zone enthuses forest authorities
PNS | RAMNAGAR
Phato Eco Tourism Zone located inside Ramnagar forest division has become a cynosure of the tourists in quite a short time. Enthused by the spiralling tourist footfalls, the division is now going to provide more facilities to the tourists to accelerate the pace further.
Ramnagar is a prominent tourist destination for Corbett National Park. Lakhs of tourists reach here every year to see the wildlife from close quarters. But a limited number of people get entry in Corbett. In view of this, the other forest divisions launched their tourism zones here. Among these, the Phato Eco Tourism Zone has soon carved its own identity, drawing tourists in their hordes. This is because they get to see a lot of wildlife here.
Notably, the Phato Zone came into being on December 15, 2021. To give further fillip to the tourist flow, the forest department has built two more tree houses here for night stay. Along with this, five huts have also been built. There are currently a total of 14 rooms for tourists to stay here, including a British-era bungalow. Now, the department is planning to set up tents here.
In the financial year 2024-25, 36,984 tourists came to this zone and the forest department earned revenue to the tune of Rs 1.16 crore, informed DFO Terai Western Forest Division, Prakash Chandra Arya.
