PNS | DEHRADUN

The Uttarakhand Congress organised a protest march to the State secretariat on Wednesday. The protest was part of the nationwide call given by the central leadership of the party to register protest on the BJP- Adani nexus and Manipur violence.

The workers and leaders of the Congress gathered at the State headquarters of the party in large numbers on the day and marched towards the Raj Bhawan.

The march led by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara was stopped by the police near Hathibadkala following which a minor scuffle occurred between workers and the law enforcers.

Addressing the protesters, Mahara said that the allegations levelled by the US Justice department against Gautam Adani and his associates have exposed the alleged racket of corruption, fraud and deceit. He said that the allegations have exposed a pattern of bribery, money laundering and manipulation in the award of government schemes, which has tarnished the reputation of Indian business and finance.  Mahara added that the incident is a matter of concern for India’s corporate governance and regulatory mechanism. He said that the BJP government engaged in deliberate blocking of parliamentary discussion on the Adani issue.  The PCC president said that for almost two years, the State of Manipur is facing an unprecedented crisis of violence, firing, curfew and widespread lawlessness. He said that the BJP government at the Centre and in the State have completely failed to handle the Manipur situation.

Mahara said that the liquor and mining mafia is ruling the roost in Uttarakhand.

In the protest the Congress leaders demanded that a JPC be formed to investigate the allegations levelled by the US Justice Department against Gautam Adani and his associates.

The leader of opposition Yashpal Arya, former chief minister Harish Rawat, AICC secretary Surendra Sharma, former PCC president Pritam Singh, former AICC secretary Prakash Joshi, state vice president Mathuradutt Joshi, media coordinator Rajiv Mehershi and other senior leaders participated in the protest.
