14 killed in tanker-truck crash on Jaipur-Ajmer highway

In a ghastly accident, at least 14 people were killed and about 35 injured after an LPG tanker had a head-on collision with a truck of the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday, sparking a fireball with nearly 40 vehicles being gutted.

Among those who expressed grief over the loss of lives in the crash were the President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade and chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma. The Rajasthan government announced financial assistance of Rs five lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs one lakh for the injured. In a social media post, Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs two lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
