BJP slams Congress for hypocrisy on Ambedkar and Constitution

The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly criticised the Congress, accusing it of hypocrisy in its stance on BR Ambedkar and the Constitution. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan labelled Congress’ recent claims of championing Ambedkar and Dalit interests as a façade, asserting that the party’s historical actions reveal a contradictory and anti-constitutional character. He stated that Congress has been misrepresenting statements made by the Home minister Amit Shah in parliament, using selective excerpts to launch a propaganda campaign across the country. He said that Shah has already clarified the matter, emphasising that Congress is evading questions about its own record while twisting facts for political mileage.

Talking about Congress’ legislative history, Chauhan pointed out that during its six decades in power, the party amended the constitution 77 times, while the BJP had made only 17 amendments during its 16 years in office. He accused Congress of sidelining Ambedkar, not even considering him worthy of a ticket and ultimately forcing him to resign. According to Chauhan, Congress’ neglect of Ambedkar extended to his legacy. While the party awarded Bharat Ratna to two prime ministers from the Nehru-Gandhi family, it failed to honour Ambedkar with the same recognition during its tenure. He also criticised Congress for building numerous memorials dedicated to its leaders but failing to establish a single significant monument for Ambedkar. Chauhan also accused Congress of displaying undemocratic behaviour in the parliament, pointing to the conduct of its senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi. He described Gandhi’s actions during the session as disrespectful and indicative of Congress’ disregard for democratic values.
