U’khand to become 100 % organic in next 2 years: Rawat

 The Cooperation minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that Uttarakhand will become completely organic in the next two years. He said that 62 out of 95 blocks of the State have become organic and 47 blocks have been certified.

The minister was addressing the fourth Rural Voice Agriculture Conclave and NACOF- 2024 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on Monday. 

The minister expressed happiness at the Uttarakhand Silk Federation receiving the National Cooperative Federation (NACOF) award -2024. The award was received by the federation’s managing director Anand Shukla.

 In his address, Rawat said that about 12 lakh farmers of Uttarakhand were given interest free loans of Rs one to five lakh which has helped in augmenting their income. He said that not even a single loan to the farmers in Uttarakhand has become NPA. He claimed that Uttarakhand’s model of cooperative committees is being adopted by every State.  The minister said that Uttarakhand has taken many new initiatives in the field of cooperative sector which other States are emulating.

He said that the development will occur only when the farmers become empowered. Rawat said that while the agricultural land is decreasing and the fertility of the soil is also getting reduced, the population of the country is continuing to decrease. 

The theme of the fourth Rural Voice Agriculture conclave was institution building for farmers. In the conclave one farmer, one cooperative body, one social organisation and one public organisation was awarded.
