Following resentment in various quarters, the Uttarakhand Congress amended the list of its star campaigners for the upcoming elections of the urban local bodies (ULB). The party removed Bhagirath Bhatt and Satish Nainwal from the list of 40 star campaigners on Wednesday and inducted the names of president of Youth Congress Sumittar Bhullar and president of National Students Union of India (NSUI) Vikas Negi in the list.
The party also appointed senior observers in both Garhwal and Kumaon division for the ULB polls. The State general secretary (Organisation) Vijay Saraswat said that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has appointed State vice president Dhirendra Pratap and Hema Purohit as senior observers for Garhwal while vice president Bhagirath Bhatt and Satish Nainwal were handed over the assignment of senior observers for Kumaon. He further informed that Sonia Anand Rawat will be in- charge of the party in the Mussoorie municipal council area for the ULB elections.
The State Congress had released the list of 40 star campaigners for the ULB elections on Monday. However many leaders including vice president Dhirendra Pratap had expressed resentment at their non-inclusion in the list.
