Responding to Congress’ allegations regarding the demolition of slum areas, the Bharatiya Janata Party has dismissed them as baseless propaganda. The party stated that it is committed to the welfare of slum dwellers and will ensure that no family loses its shelter until a permanent solution is found. The State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that Congress is attempting to spread misinformation.
According to him, the BJP is focussed on resolving the issue of regularising slums permanently. Chauhan said that the State government has already provided relief to slum dwellers multiple times by introducing ordinances. He stressed the importance of fixing river widths through hydrological surveys, a crucial step for land-use conversion and regularisation of these settlements. Chauhan stated that the survey is progressing decisively and once completed, it will enable the definition of riverbanks and submerged lands, paving the way for further processes.
He criticised Congress for making unsubstantiated claims without technical understanding. He stated that Congress has no real concern for slum dwellers and accused the opposition of politicising a sensitive issue. He credited BJP with protecting slum residents from economic and political exploitation and ensuring their development through tax integration and regularisation initiatives.
The BJP government is committed to finding a permanent legal resolution with scientific and technical studies now in their final stages, he said. “The BJP had also provided relief through ordinances in 2018 and 2021, unlike Congress, which merely resorted to superficial measures for applause. The BJP is the true protector of slum dwellers and will continue to ensure justice for them,” he added.
