Uttarakhand Ayurved University (UAU) vice chancellor Arun Kumar Tripathi presented details of the progress in ongoing research under the theme ‘One University – One Research’ at Raj Bhawan on Saturday in the presence of governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh. The university has been researching the treatment of fistula with alkali Sutra management. Notably, the governor had earlier directed all universities in the State to undertake research that benefits Uttarakhand, leveraging their respective areas of expertise.

During the presentation, Tripathi shared that over the past year, the university has conducted research and treatment of 182 individuals suffering from fistula. The aim of this research is to provide an effective and permanent solution to this complex disease. He said that the main causes of fistula are poor lifestyle choices, improper diet and chronic constipation. The disease primarily affects individuals between the ages of 24 and 54 years, with a higher prevalence in men. Tripathi emphasised that fistula can be successfully treated through Ayurveda, with a low recurrence rate. Patients were treated using Kshar Sutra as part of the research, he said.

The governor praised the university’s research efforts, noting that it will strengthen public faith in Ayurveda. He highlighted the necessity of such research to establish Ayurveda on a scientific basis and to gain global recognition. Singh said that the final findings of this research will be shared with the State government and the Ministry of AYUSH for widespread adoption. He said that this initiative would not only provide a new identity for Ayurveda but also offer effective, safe and permanent treatment solutions for patients. He appreciated the research team for its dedication and hard work.
