The municipal bodies across Dehradun district will use 23 vehicles to ensure smooth voting for differently-abled voters in the urban local body elections on Thursday. The Dehradun chief development officer and deputy district election officer of Dehradun, Abhinav Shah, flagged off these vehicles designed to facilitate the movement of differently-abled individuals for the municipal elections.

These vehicles will cater to the needs of voters in various areas, including the municipal bodies of Rishikesh, Doiwala, Mussoorie, Herbertpur, Vikasnagar and Selaqui. The vehicles for the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) are scheduled to depart on Thursday, Shah said. He informed that to ensure smooth voting for differently-abled voters in the Dehradun district, a total of 23 vehicles have been authorised across municipal corporations, municipalities and Nagar Panchayats.

The CDO said that these vehicles are equipped with wheelchairs and staffed with personnel trained to assist voters. The service will operate in coordination with the control room, returning officers (ROs), assistant returning officers (AROs), booth level officers (BLOs) and other officials concerned. Upon receiving information, mobile vans will promptly provide assistance to differently-abled individuals, ensuring they can exercise their voting rights seamlessly, he added.
