The Bharatiya Janata Party has prepared a list of 6,914 polling agents, two for each of the 3,457 municipal booths, in Uttarakhand to assist voters during urban local body (ULB) elections on Thursday. The party will also deploy five support staff at each booth for better assistance. The BJP has set up a control room to address issues faced by party workers during the voting process.

The BJP held a high-level meeting a day before the election on Wednesday to finalise strategy for the voting day scheduled for Thursday. The meeting, led by State president Mahendra Bhatt, focussed on increasing voter turnout and securing a majority of votes for the party’s candidates in municipal body. The State Media In-Charge Manveer Chauhan informed that the virtual meeting, held at the party headquarters, was attended by key leaders, including State General Secretary (Organisation) Ajay Kumar, State General Secretary Aditya Kothari, MPs, MLAs, municipal organisation heads, district presidents and party officials.

During the session, Bhatt asked attendees to ensure that every voter is marked at the household level with the assistance of Panna Pramukhs to maximise public participation in electing city governments. Bhatt reiterated the need to secure a significant victory for BJP candidates across maximum municipal bodies, aiming to establish a triple-engine government that will enhance developmental efforts. In the meeting the party leadership shared the detailed strategy for voting day, calling for the formation of teams responsible for ensuring maximum voter turnout. Instructions were given to identify supporters, party workers and members of affiliated groups in the voter list and ensure that their votes are cast as early as possible.

Booth presidents have been tasked with completing all formalities related to the identification and appointment of polling agents. The party workers have been trained on how to raise objections against suspicious voters and educate the public on correctly marking ballot papers to avoid errors, Chauhan said.
