Several routes will remain diverted today in Dehradun as part of extensive security and traffic arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit for the inauguration of the 38th National Games. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh informed that starting from 12 PM, access to Jolly Grant Airport from Thano Road will be restricted for taxis and Maxi cabs. Only local residents and event participants with valid identification will be allowed entry through this route.
From early morning until midnight, heavy vehicles will be entirely banned on key routes, including Maldevta, Ranipokhari, Thano, Jolly Grant and areas around Chhe Number Puliya, Ladpur trisection, Kargi Chowk, Naya Gaon, Transportnagar and Lal Tappar. These measures aim to reduce congestion and ensure seamless movement for those involved in the event. Singh said that as the day progresses, more stringent restrictions will come into effect. He informed that after 7 PM, traffic heading towards Maharana Pratap Chowk from Ladpur trisection and nearby areas will be diverted. Similarly, vehicles arriving from Maldevta Road will be rerouted towards Kalagaon. Roads leading to critical areas such as the Cricket Stadium, Soda Saroli and Thano will also be closed to traffic after this time.
The police will also block access to Jolly Grant Airport from multiple points, including Ranipokhari, SDRF trisection, and Bhoomya Mandir trisection from 6 PM onwards. Public transport, including city buses, Vikrams and minibuses operating on Thano Road, will not be allowed to proceed to Maharana Pratap Chowk from 1 PM onwards. Private vehicles from Maldevta will also not be permitted to move towards Maharana Pratap Chowk after 2 PM. The SSP has urged citizens to cooperate with these temporary measures and plan their travel accordingly.
