Health services in place for players in 38th National Games

The Health department has made all necessary arrangements to address the health concerns of those competing in the 38th National Games formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Tuesday. The Health department has formed 141 medical teams to provide health services to the players during the National Games. Arrangements have been made in Dehradun district to address the health and medical requirements of the participants.
According to officials, the Health department has established 32 medical teams at all sports venues in the district. A 10-bed Dhanvantari Hospital has been set up at the Maharana Pratap Sports Complex in Raipur. A four-bedded health centre has also been established at the Parade Ground Sports Complex. Orthopaedic specialists, physicians, physiotherapists and paramedical staff have been deployed at both the centres. Further, 12 mobile health teams have been created to assist players at their residences and hotels, they said.
The officials further added that a medical control room has been established at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital, equipped with 10 beds and staffed with specialist doctors. Medical superintendent at the district hospital Dr VS Chauhan has been appointed as the nodal officer here. Additionally, 10 beds have been reserved at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital in Dehradun, with specialist doctors assigned to that facility as well.
The officials further added that AIIMS Rishikesh has been designated as a higher referral centre for the National Games with 10 beds reserved for this purpose. The Health department has also deployed six advanced life support ambulances, nine basic life support ambulances and 10 departmental ambulances specifically for the National Games. Helicopter ambulance facility is also available for emergencies. To enhance medical services, 20 specialist doctors have been arranged from other districts, they added.
GDMC hospital deputy medical superintendent Dr Nandan Singh Bisht said that 10 beds have been reserved for the players of the National Games in the hospital. Additionally, paramedical and nursing staff duties have been organised in three shifts at the hospital during the games. According to Dr Chauhan, following the directives of chief medical officer Dr Sanjay Jain, the district hospital administration is equipped to handle various cases and injuries. Chauhan said that the medical team has been organised into three shifts for the duration of the games. Each shift will consist of four doctors with expertise in various fields such as medicine, orthopaedics and physiotherapy. Additionally, four beds have been allocated for athletes in the hospital’s emergency ward, along with 10 recovery beds for the players, he said.
