The State Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the State government aims to achieve a 100 percent institutional delivery at the hospitals by the end of this year. He said this while laying the foundation stone of the blood bank at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya District Hospital on Wednesdays. He also inaugurated a model vaccination centre at Gandhi Shatabdi Hospital and an ASHA centre at the district hospital in the programme.
The programme was attended by the district magistrate Savin Bansal, chief medical officer (CMO) Dehradun Dr Sanjay Jain and others.
In his address, Rawat expressed his satisfaction with the enhancement of health facilities at the district hospital and other important medical facilities. He noted that the upgraded model vaccination centre at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital now allows vaccinations for children seven days a week compared to only two days a week previously. This change enables working parents to have their children vaccinated any day from 8 AM to 8 PM. He observed that the blood bank would improve services for patients at the district hospital.
Regarding other health initiatives, Rawat stated that the State government has issued appointment letters to 8,000 candidates in the health department so far. He also highlighted the fact that the delivery rate for pregnant women at hospitals has now reached 93 per cent, up from an average of 60 per cent, thanks to the efforts of ASHA workers. The government aims to achieve a 100 per cent delivery rate at hospitals this year, he added. Rawat also informed that 100 ward boys would be hired soon.
He announced that the response time for the 108 ambulance service would now be 15 minutes with the tracking system enabling the patients and their attendants to track the ambulance. To ensure patients’ safety, cameras would be installed in the 108 ambulances, he added.
On this occasion, several ambulances were flagged off for the special newborn care unit at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital.
