DM to introduce dedicated transport service for elderly and differently-abled complainants

A dedicated transportation service for the elderly and differently-abled complainants will soon be available at the Dehradun district collectorate to ensure greater accessibility to various government offices, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He informed that till now, the senior citizens and differently-abled individuals who attended public hearings at the DM’s office were transported to relevant departments using official vehicles. However, this process often posed challenges and required a permanent and streamlined solution.

Considering this, the district administration approved the purchase of an electric vehicle from an agency to commence a dedicated transport service. This vehicle will be stationed at the main gate of the collectorate and will facilitate the movement of elderly and differently-abled complainants to offices such as Vikas Bhawan, district Social Welfare department, Tehsil, senior superintendent of police’s office, Senior Citizen Cell, Women’s Cell and other important departments, as per Bansal.

He said that a PRD volunteer will also be deployed in the vehicle to help those in need to make their journey more convenient. He said that the administration has already issued the order to purchase the electric vehicle and it will be operational within the collectorate premises soon. A designated driver and a home guard will also be assigned to manage the service and ensure that complainants reach their respective offices without difficulty, he said.
